really excited to be asked back to denver fashion week for the spring show. for the spring season they’re pairing designers with local street artists to collaborate on a collection. they’ve set me up with the ladies fancywork society & i couldn’t be more stoked! i’ve seen their yarn bombs around denver & it’s so exciting to get to work with such kick-ass ladies. on my way to our first meeting this morning i drove by one of their bombs & it all just feels surreal. i love denver & it’s seriously so dreamy just getting to make fashion with other artists in the community.

medy, the sushi take-out queen. wore my boyfriend’s cowboy boots because they were big enough to fit over my slipper socks.

thinking about the journey of life & all of the time i used to consider wasted. i’ve always loved fashion but had a strong interest in graphic design out of high school & decided to pursue it as a more sensible career choice. i went to a year of college & majored in graphic design, sweet talked my way into landing a student web design job at my university’s media office, a job usually reserved for seniors & not a freshman with literally no experience. after i dropped out of my short lived stint in college, i landed a killer internship at graphik creative, an all female graphic design firm. it wasn’t long before i was burned out from corporate graphic design & left the field to pursue photography instead, first at a portrait studio then traveling as a boudoir photographer for an agency. after several years of working as a photographer (& sometimes waitress) i eventually ended back up in web design as a last resort at the time.
i’m now working as a seamstress, in the field i’ve always wanted to be in while continuing to grow my personal clothing brand, for which i made this digital event flyer for.
now i’m not saying this is the greatest flyer in the world, i mean it’s just a stupid flyer. but upon completing it i felt internally grateful for all of that “wasted time” pursuing other interests like graphic design. i remember seeing my friends get college degrees & feeling envious of their dedication, frustrated by my inability to commit to a single goddamn thing. but in retrospect, it’s because of that experimentation that my skillset is much more rounded in aiding the path i’m most passionate about. it’s really fucking useful to be able to design my own flyers, make my own website, etc. basically this just a post about trusting your journey & all that good stuff, you never know what will pay off.
